Let’s take a look at the best Mizoram festivals and cultures.
1. Chapchar Kut:
This is the oldest festival in Mizoram. On this festival, farmers cut down bamboo forests to make room for seasonal agriculture. This is the season when farmers wait for the bamboo piles to dry out or be burned. This process is called Chapchar. Although Kut means festival, the system of drying the heap and the festivals celebrating the arrival of spring constitute the true meaning of chapchar kut.

2. Mimkut:
Mim kut is an annual festival, also like chapchar kut. More than just a festival, it’s a vibrant and colourful cultural festival, celebrated with great anticipation and luxury, where the fun is only a small factor compared to all the dancing and singing that lasts four or five days. Mim Kut is basically a corn festival. While every festival in India is lavish and flashy, mizo festivals are not only unique, but simple, diverse and culturally rich.
The tradition of paying homage to the dead is carried out in established customs that were used centuries ago. This festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout Mizoram. It is believed that during Mikut celebrations, dead ancestors visit the houses of their children and relatives and offer them special offerings. These products include fresh vegetables, corn, bread and necklaces. Often, clothes are also dedicated to their memory.
Generally, the first day of the festival is dedicated to the ceremony of offerings to the dead. The second day consisted mainly of fun and playful games as well as dancing and singing. According to tradition, on the second day, meals are prepared with bread, which is used to make a hearty meal.
Mim kut festival is celebrated from August to September, just after the successful corn harvest. Samples harvested the previous year are dedicated to the dead of the community.
