Meghalaya is about 300 kilometers long and at least 100 kilometers wide. Its capital Shilling is one of the popular hill stations that attracts several tourists every year. The hills and lush forests of the region provide the state with a naturally beautiful setting. Shilong Peak is the highest peak in the region and is often referred to as the “House of the Gods”. 1. Lady Haidari Park:

Lady Haidari Park is located in the heart of Shillong. The best time to visit this park is April and October. Many people like to just pass the time sitting on the benches here.

2. Shilong Peak:

People come here for picnics, to escape the morbid hustle and bustle of the city, and to enjoy the panoramic city views this 196-meter hill offers.

3. Elephant Falls:

Elephant Falls are huge waterfalls that are actually mountain streams gushing out from the gap between two large mountains. It presents a spectacular sight and is close to two other similar but smaller waterfalls called Wei Iaplam Waterfall and Wir Phang Waterfall. Bridges and trails also allow access to these falls. Now this is the recommended way of walking for everyone.

4. Sweet Waterfall:

Unlike Elephant Falls, Sweet Falls does not spread. Instead, it lands in a narrow straight pencil-like line about 200 feet away! The views are undoubtedly spectacular. The surrounding terrain and scenery make this place suitable for an afternoon picnic. It is located in Happy Valley not far from Shillong.

5. Spread Eagle Falls:

This waterfall is located on the outskirts of Shillong city. Locals call it “Umkaliar” or the waterfall that Kaliar slides into. There are some legends about its existence. This fall is different from the previous two falls, in the shape of eagle wings, hence the name.

6. Cathedral Catholic Church:

This church is again in the center of Shillong. It has a peaceful setting and a peaceful atmosphere. A beautiful Roman Catholic church dedicated to the Christian help of Mary.

7. Williamson Summer State Museum:

This is a government museum maintained by the Department of Arts and Culture. It has several exhibits that showcase the rich cultural and traditional history of the people of the region. Located next to the National Central Library, the museum helps you better understand the ethno-tribal culture of the people in the region.

8. Golf Course:

Shillong offers one of the best natural golf courses in the world. Its excellence has even been recognized by the USGA and the museum, dubbing it the “Glen Eagle of the East.” It is set in a rolling valley at 5,200 feet above sea level and offers excellent views of the surrounding landscape. Originally a nine-hole course, it was later expanded into an eighteen-hole course!
