Balpakram National Park:
This is the entire area of Balpakram, Meghalaya, which was declared a national park in 1987. It’s an adventure lover’s paradise and a favorite for wildlife lovers. This park is located near the southern Garo Mountains and is only accessible by road. So after Guwahati one has to take local transport to get here.
The star attractions of the park are
• a wide variety of butterflies,
• wild bison,
• Bison and
• elephant.
Some of them are rare and endangered. But the park attracts zoologists, botanists and naturalists. It is also a treasure house of some rare medicinal plants. The best time to visit is from April to June, when the flora is unobstructed. It is especially colorful because of the beautiful butterflies.

Knock Reek National Park:
The Nokrek Biosphere Reserve is one of its kind in northeastern India. It is also one of the most secluded jungles in the sub-Himalayan region. It is located on Mount Garo, just 2 km from Tula Peak. Home to a large number of different species, some common, some rare and few endangered.It is mainly used for

Four-House Bird Sanctuary:
It is one of the best bird parks in the mountains of the Northeast and is a paradise for ornithologists from all over the world. The rock formations in the area are beautifully decorated and birds are free to thrive in their natural environment. The best time to visit is in winter, when there are migratory birds everywhere, and adults and children alike enjoy it. The nearest city is Bagmara, which is connected to the nearest railway and airport in Guwahati.

Selbagre Hoolock Gibbon Reserve:
This small conservation park is home to the Hoolock Gibbons. These are the only species of apes found in this part of India. The Garros never killed or hunted the white-headed gibbon because it was believed to be the source of great suffering. Therefore, protecting animals is their biggest move.
While these parks primarily deal with wildlife, there are other parks in the state that are primarily used for recreational purposes. Some of them are as follows:

This manicured garden in East Cassie also has a mini zoo and children’s playground. This park is located in the heart of Shillong, close to Crinoline Falls and the only swimming pool available in the city.

This park is a popular tourist attraction with panoramic views of neighboring Bangladesh. Thankarang Park sits high on a rocky cliff, where one can see the impressive Kynrem Falls cascading majestically.
