1. The Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib):

Akal Takhat Sahib (Throne of the Almighty, Immortal Throne) is the center of Sikh polity and part of the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) complex. On June 15, 1606, Guru Har Gobind Sahib revealed Akal Takht Sahib. In 1606, the building of Akal Takht Sahib was a one-story structure. The foundation stone was laid by Guru Har Gobind Sahib himself, and the entire structure was built by Baba Buddha and Bhai Gurdas. Only the most respected and enlightened Sikhs were allowed to participate in the process of building Takhat Sahib, and no ordinary people or masons were allowed to participate.
Akal Takht is also known as the “Eternal Throne”. It is located inside the Golden Temple and was built by the sixth Sikh guru, Hago Vander Singh. Akal Takht is considered the highest of the five Takhts, the others are Keshgarh Sahib, Patna Sahib, Hazur Sahib and Damdama Sahib. During Operation Blue Star, Takht was severely damaged as Indian troops stormed the area.
